Michael Carberry, Dominic Cork and Mark Butcher look back at an incredible innings from Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers of RCB

AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli were in phenomenal form for Royal Challengers Bangalore as they beat Gujarat Lions by 144 runs in the IPL.

Having lost Chris Gayle early on, De Villiers came to the crease for RCB and it quickly became apparent that the South African was in the mood.

De Villiers was simply irresistible, showing immense power and was clearing the rope almost at will, on both sides of the wicket. The Gujarat bowlers had no answer as he bludgeoned his way to a phenomenal century, off just 43 balls.

Such was De Villiers' brilliance that even Kohli at the other end could only look on in astonishment as the No 3 launched a mammoth six, one of 12 in his innings, so high over square leg that it bounced back off the roof of the stadium.

Having watched De Villiers blast his way to three figures, with three overs remaining Kohli found himself on a comparatively pedestrian 52 from 41 balls. He went about changing that with a four and a six from Dwayne Bravo's over before hammering 30 off Shivil Kaushik, including four maximums, in the 19th.

The Indian then completed his century in the final over before he was caught off the penultimate ball of the innings, bringing to an end a remarkable partnership of 229 from 96 balls between the pair.
