Sir Ian Botham expects David Willey to help England to a series-levelling victory against Australia in the crucial Royal London ODI Cup clash at Headingley on Friday.
The Northamptonshire one-day specialist, who has played only four international ODIs, could get his chance after Chris Woakes was ruled out of the two remaining matches with a thigh injury.
Willey, 25, impressed with by taking 2-34 in England's recent, one-off T20 success against Australia and Botham thinks he deserves another chance in the 50-over format.
The Sky Sports commentator said: "I'd be surprised if they don't play Willey, that's who I'd play. He gives England a bit of variation, left-arm over."
Willey and Mark Wood are both options to replace Woakes, as is uncapped left-armer Reece Topley, as England bid the square the five-match series, live on Sky Sports 2.
England kept the series alive with an impressive 93-run win at Old Trafford on Tuesday as James Taylor struck his maiden one-day international century before spinners Adil Rashid (2-41) and Moeen Ali (3-32) turned the screw to help dismiss Australia for 207.
Botham was delighted with England's display in Manchester and the continuing progress made by Yorkshire leg-spinner Rashid.
The former England skipper said: "I think he's done enough to make people finally realise that he has got something to offer. I thought he bowled really well again. Leg spinners do get hit for runs, but that's part and parcel of the territory.
"It's made it really interesting now. It is 2-1 and we're at Headingley and then Old Trafford again on Sunday. England have good records at these two grounds.
"They've still got it all to do but psychologically it's a good boost. You are only as good as your last game and that's what the England dressing room will be telling themselves."
Botham is tipping England to level the series at even-money with victory at Leeds and Jonny Bairstow (6/1) to top score on his home ground.
