Ben Stokes got the ball rolling for England as seven South African wickets fell on the first day of the third Test in Johannesburg.
During a frustrating first session for the visitors, Stokes (2-53) removed Stiaan van Zyl with his third ball to earn England their first wicket in the 18th over.
The impressive Steven Finn took 2-50 including Hashim Amla, out edging a beauty behind to Jonny Bairstow behind the stumps.
The first four of England's wickets were caught by Bairstow, including Stokes' second when new South African skipper AB de Villiers gloved behind.
Bairstow also affected a run out in the evening session, splattering the stumps to remove Cape Town centurion Temba Bavuma as the hosts reached the close on 267-7.
