England coach Trevor Bayliss told Ian Ward that he believes that the future looks good for England's Test side after they won the Ashes 3-2.

England coach Trevor Bayliss says his players showed "a lot of courage" to defeat Australia in this summer's Investec Ashes series.

Alastair Cook's side slipped to a comprehensive defeat in the final Test on Sunday but won the series 3-2 after impressive performances in Cardiff, Birmingham and Nottingham.

"It's been a fantastic three wins," said Bayliss after the final Test.

"We didn't play very well in two matches so we've got some hard work to do but tonight we'll enjoy this moment. I'd hate for it to have gone to a sixth match, it might have been 3-3.

"Over the next few years just imagine some of these talented young players with 40, 50 Tests..."

"I know the Australian team will be very disappointed with the way they've played in three of the matches but we're disappointed with the way we played in two.

"It's a bit of a gentle reminder that the job's not done. Going forward for this group of young players, if you have a look at the team, especially from a batting point of view, it's very young and inexperienced.

"At the start of the series they weren't given a chance at all. Everyone heard the talk about Australia winning 5-0 and coming over here full of confidence. It took a lot of courage and confidence and stand up against that Australia team. To win that first match gave them the belief that they were good enough."

England face Australia in a one-off T20 match before playing a five game ODI series. Bayliss is expected to select most of the squad that impressed against New Zealand earlier this summer.

"We meet tomorrow to select that squad but I think it would be hard to make too many changes from the squad that beat New Zealand and played so well," he said.

"I think they need to be given some more opportunities."
