Steve Smith batted in 'cruise control' on day two in Perth, says Athers, who reckons Craig Overton was the pick of the England bowlers

Mike Atherton reflects on another fine Steve Smith innings and an impressive spell of seam from Craig Overton after day two at the WACA.

Watch Athers' video review above as he looks at how Smith entered "cruise control" as his unbeaten 92 lifted Australia to 203-3 by stumps in Perth to leave the hosts 200 runs in arrears.

England were dismissed for 403 after losing their final six wickets for 35 runs, with Athers saying Joe Root's side missed the chance to "snuff out" the Baggy Greens in the third Ashes Test.

Overton struck twice in Australia's innings before seemingly tweaking his rib, removing David Warner and Cameron Bancroft, while Chris Woakes trapped Usman Khawaja lbw towards the close.

And Athers now reckons the side with a first-innings lead will triumph in Perth, with the pitch "dry and cracking". Now, he's just hoping the rain stays away and does not ruin a "fantastic Test match".
