England have confirmed that seamer Craig Overton has a cracked rib.

Overton was passed fit to bowl for England on day three of the third Ashes Test in Perth after taking painkillers but his injury will be reassessed.

The 23-year-old hurt himself the previous afternoon when he dived to try to take a caught-and-bowled chance, having also been struck a painful blow to the ribs while batting on debut in England's defeat in Adelaide.

England assistant coach Paul Farbrace confirmed Overton's injury after Saturday's play, praising the Somerset seamer's character.

"Overton has carried on bowling with a cracked rib and that's been quite tough for him", he said.

"He looked the most likely to get a wicket yesterday. He got two good wickets, bowled a good length, got extra bounce and looked like he was going to be quite a handful for today.
