Ben Stokes must mature after the ECB confirmed it has seen video footage allegedly showing him in a brawl, says Dominic Cork.
Stokes was released without charge while inquiries continue and the ECB says it will respect the police investigation.
But former England player Cork has told Stokes and international team-mate Alex Hales - who was also allegedly pictured in the footage - to steer clear of similar situations in the future.
"They have to," Cork told Sky Sports News, when asked whether the pair need to mature. "You don't want to be in that situation whether you're Ben Stokes or anybody in the street.
"You have to think twice. Unfortunately, it's a story that will run on and on. It's just a disappointment because we were just starting to see what was, and will be, a fantastic career for Ben Stokes. Let's hope this doesn't happen again for anybody."
Cork added: "He [Stokes] is a world-renowned name. When I was playing things went well early on and then the recognition comes.
"You can't just stay in your house all the time or, if you're away from home, in a hotel. But you have to make a decision that is right for you as an individual and the team as well.
"It goes with the territory, you're an international player, you're in the limelight, you have to look after yourself."
