England Test captain Alastair Cook says he would not stop Stuart Broad from playing in the World Twenty20 next year despite wanting his fast bowler fresh for the five-day game.
Broad has not played in the shortest format of the game since the 2014 edition of the tournament, when England failed to reach the knockout stages under his captaincy.
England have a busy 2016 ahead, with a four-Test tour of South Africa followed by the World Twenty20 and then home Test series' against Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
With one-day games to factor in between those fixtures, England's selectors face a challenge to manage the three squads and maintain players' fitness.
But Cook says he would have no problem if they want to take Broad to India in March.
"As a Test captain you want your best players playing just that format in a very selfish way," he said. "But that's not the right thing. Broady has been fantastic for English cricket for a very long time.
"Physically he has looked in fantastic nick recently and he hasn't played much one-day cricket. He would go with my blessing.
"If you want to go to win global tournaments and you need your best players.
"That's an interesting selection for the selectors, Andrew Strauss and Eoin Morgan. That will be a decision made down the line and you can't look too far ahead."
