Defending champions Yorkshire have suffered an injury blow ahead of the start of the Specsavers County Championship after experienced bowler Tim Bresnan was ruled out for the first six weeks of the season.

The former England seamer has torn his lower calf and is expected to miss the opening four games as the White Rose look to win the championship for a third successive year.

Yorkshire physiotherapist Kunwar Bansil said: "It is unfortunate for Tim. He will now start an intense period of rehabilitation on his torn calf and we hope to have him back fit and strong during the middle of May."
