James Anderson has said he and fellow opening bowling partner Stuart Broad are "still hungry" for more Test wickets after the pair passed a combined 1,000 red-ball scalps.

Broad was left out of the side for the first Test against the Windies in Barbados but Anderson's second wicket of the match, having Roston Chase caught in the slips for 57, brought up the milestone for the pair.

After a brilliant spell with the second new ball from Anderson turned the game in visitors' favour, England's leading wicket-taker admitted that despite feeling tired he was eager to continue playing.

"It makes you feel old," the 36-year-old said. "I've just bowled 24 overs in a day and I'm knackered but we've played for a long time together and it's amazing to think we've taken that many wickets.

"It's a shame that Stuart wasn't out there but hopefully he'll get a go at some stage on this tour. We are still pretty hungry to play and we've all seen the amount of work Stuart has put in.

"I've loved it today...while we're enjoying it who knows how many we can take."

England's decision to pick a second spinner in Adil Rashid ahead of Broad caused debate, with the pitch coming alive when the away side took the second new ball on 80 overs.

James Anderson says the first day of the series against Windies was one of patience for England, but feels they have got themselves in a good position ahead of day two.

"Of course it causes conversation, it's a massive decision," said Anderson when asked about Broad's omission.

"You've got one guy who's played 124 Tests but you have a really talented all-rounder (in Sam Curran) and in that respect, it shows how strong our squad is.

"There will be difficult decisions as this team improves. It's tough for Joe but that's why he gets paid the big bucks."
