The first Cricket Debate of 2019 saw Charles Colvile joined by Bob Willis and Alec Stewart as they reflected on an eventful day one of the first Test between England and Windies in Barbados.
Stuart Broad's omission from the team in favour of a second spinner in the form of Adil Rashid was at the forefront of Bob and Alec's minds, with the former admitting to being "flabbergasted" at the decision to play just three seamers.
The conversation quickly moved onto England's premier seam bowler James Anderson, whose 4-33 from his 24 overs put the visitors in the driving seat.
Stewart compared Anderson to Malcolm Marshall, saying England's leading Test wicket-taker was definitely on par with the former West Indian bowler on skill.
There was equally plenty of praise for Ben Stokes, who provided the first momentum change for his side early in the second session when he claimed two wickets in five balls.
Moving on to the Windies, Bob felt the hosts batted well until the second new ball with their batsmen clearly surprised by the extra bounce the England bowlers managed to garner after the 80 over mark.
However, Stewart claimed it was a "terrible" scorecard in one sense with players all making starts but failing to go on and make a big score.
