Brotherly hundreds, Mason Crane's unwanted record and sweltering temperatures in Sydney... here's all you need to know from day four of the fifth Ashes Test.

REPORT

Australia are closing in on an innings victory and a 4-0 series victory after a day which saw Shaun and Mitchell Marsh emulate history at the SCG.

MOMENT OF THE DAY

There were probably two moments of the day and they both fell to the Marsh brothers.

It all began with Shaun reaching his second century of the winter from just the fifth ball of the day, sparking celebrations between the two brothers.

Just an hour later there was another Marsh party out in the middle when Mitch repeated the dose, scoring his second ton of the series from just 140 balls. However, there was a moment of concern as Mitch brought up his hundred.

On returning for the second run, the brothers stopped mid-pitch to hug it out but they were unaware the ball had not reached the boundary. The ball was still in play and luckily for the pair, there was still enough time for them to scramble to safety before reigniting the celebrations.

By each passing an Ashes century in the same innings, the two sons of former Test opener Geoff were emulating deeds of two previous sets of Australian brothers - the Chappells in 1972 and the Waughs in 2001, both of which came at The Oval.

WHAT THEY SAID

Do England still have the resolve to save this Test match? England assistant coach PAUL FARBRACE has been speaking to BT Sport: "Of course we have. That is the gist of Test cricket, it's tough, it's hard work and sometimes you come across days like that where the temperature is against you, the conditions are against you and perhaps the game is against you, but you've got to keep fighting.

"Otherwise you're just chucking the towel in and that is not the way to play Test cricket. You've got to get stuck in.

"In many ways, the last couple of days have summed up our series. We've not been quite good enough when we've needed to be and we've found ourselves in this position far too often.

"The planning needs to start now for the next time England come here. You have to believe you can win overseas and you have to believe that you have the qualities to build a side that can win overseas."

Australia batsman Shaun Marsh on the celebrations for brother Mitch's hundred: "Emotions got the better of me and I wanted to give him a hug.

"To be out there with Mitch, to both score our test centuries today for Australia, being out there and sharing each other's emotions when we got to our hundreds, was an extremely happy moment. It'll certainly be a day that we won't forget."
