Windies batsman Evin Lewis' incredible knock in the fourth ODI against England came to a premature end with this unfortunate incident

Windies opener Evin Lewis had his sights set on the first double ton in an ODI in the UK until a freak injury brought his smashing innings to an abrupt end, in the fourth one-day international against England at the Oval.

Lewis blitzed 176 off 130 balls - including 17 fours and seven sixes - before he was forced to retire hurt in the 47th over, after deflecting a delivery from seamer Jake Ball into his ankle and collapsing to the turf.

Writhing in agony, the 25-year-old Trinidad left-handed opener required prolonged on-field treatment before being wheeled off on a stretcher to sympathetic applause from a capacity crowd. He was later taken to hospital for an X-ray.
