James Anderson pulled out all the stops in search of his 500th Test wicket but somehow Devendra Bishoo survived. Watch this incredible over!

James Anderson's 500th Test wicket must wait for another day - but goodness knows how following a superb over to Devendra Bishoo on day one of the third Test against Windies at Lord's.

Anderson, having moved on to 499 Test scalps by having Kraigg Brathwaite and Kyle Hope caught behind by Jonny Bairstow, looked for all money like he would make Bishoo his 500th victim.

Bishoo edged Anderson for four from the first ball of the 57th over to move past, funnily enough, 500 Test runs, but was then beaten all ends up by the next five deliveries.

In-duckers over the stumps, out-swingers past the bat - Bishoo was bamboozled by them all, with umpire Chris Gaffaney even wincing as one delivery somehow missed the timbers.

"It was a brilliant exhibition of swing, snaking the ball this way and that," said Sky Sports' Michael Atherton. "Goodness knows how he didn't clean [Bishoo] up at some stage."

Anderson did not get another dig at Bishoo as with Windies eight down, Ben Stokes ousted Kemar Roach and Shannon Gabriel in the following over to skittle Windies for 123 en route to career-best figures of 6-22.

Anderson played his part in that, though, diving across fellow slip fielder, Tom Westley, to catch out Roach, before giving Stokes a hug at the end of the Windies innings.

"That over [Anderson] bowled to Bishoo was the best over in the history of Test cricket not to get a wicket," said Stokes.

"I've got no idea how he didn't manage to get one but he's got another crack at getting the big 500, and I'm sure he will."
