Joe Root's CV was always destined to have 'England captain' on it.

Those words are the latest additions to an already impressive career comprising of 4,594 runs over four years in 98 innings - that tally including 11 hundreds and 27 fifties.

But you knew those stats, right?

To mark Root's succession, have a go at our quiz where you can test your knowledge about the new skipper - on and off the pitch.

Root takes over aged 26 years and 45 days - a year older than Alastair Cook when he took over from Andrew Strauss, but more than two years younger than the four English Test captains before that.

His first Test match as England captain will be against South Africa at Lord's on July 6 and you can see it live only Sky Sports.

Root's first opposing Test captain barring injury, will be Faf du Plessis. The South Africa skipper is only marginally more experienced in the job having led them in eight Test matches after AB De Villiers stood down.
