Was Ben Stokes unlucky to be given out caught behind by the third umpire in Mumbai?

Ben Stokes was given out caught behind on review in Mumbai - but should he have been?

The England all-rounder seemed sure he had hit the ground with his bat instead of edged Ravichandran Ashwin to Virat Kohli in the slip cordon in the third over of day two at Wankhede Stadium.

Stokes was given not out on the field as the ball ballooned to Kohli but India's review was successful, with third umpire Chettithody Shamshuddin deciding the left-hander had got a conclusive nick.

Ben Stokes - Did he edge it?

Ultra Edge showed a clear noise - but was it bat on ball, bat on ground or both? Watch the video at the top of the page and make up your mind.

Sky Sports' Nasser Hussain was on commentary at the time, and although he thinks the right decision was made, he disagrees with how it was reached.

"The decision was right," said Hussain. "It did look like a clear edge on replay. But it was the whole review process I wasn't 100 per cent certain of.

"I have never been happy with calling the technology 'Snicko' or 'Ultra Edge' as it's a presumption that any noise is the bat.

Nasser Hussain dissects the Ben Stokes dismissal and looks at England's dominance in the first session on day two.

"You could see that the bat hit the ground at the same moment, so conceivably the spike on Ultra Edge could have been down to that, which the third umpire never mentioned.

"And I certainly don't agree with the third umpire asking for input from this 'Adam', whoever he is? It's not 'phone a friend', you're third umpire - you make the decision."
