Daily Mail writer Paul Newman believes that Chris Woakes could be the long-term successor to James Anderson in the England Test side

James Anderson's fitness, whether Chris Woakes can be his long-term successor and Scott Borthwick's chances of a Test call-up were debated by Paul Allott, Paul Newman and John Etheridge on the latest episode of Cricket Writers on TV.

Paul and his gang were live at Bristol to mull over the hot cricketing topics and the injury to England's swing-bowling supremo, understandably, was top of the agenda.

Anderson is now a major doubt for the first Test against Pakistan in July after sustaining a stress fracture to his right shoulder blade and the panel, while refusing to rule out the possibility of the Lancastrian recovering in time to play, pondered who might replace him.

Newman (Daily Mail) and Etheridge (The Sun) discussed Woakes as a long-term replacement for Anderson, Ben Stokes' chances of being fit for the Lord's Test, why Borthwick is such a strong contender to come in for Nick Compton and whether Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow could share the wicket-keeping gloves.
