England and Sri Lanka meet again with the start of a five-match ODI series on Tuesday at Trent Bridge, live on Sky Sports.

England got the better of the three-match Test series, securing a comfortable 2-0 win, but will they fare as well in the white-ball format?

On Sri Lanka's last visit in 2014, they slipped to a 3-2 series defeat. Here's a look at how it all unfolded...

Jordan's all-round efforts

England got the better of Sri Lanka in the rain-reduced 39-overs-a-side opener at The Oval, thanks to a man-of-the match display from Chris Jordan. Jordan smashed an unbeaten 38 off just 13 balls to help propel England up to 247-6 after Gary Ballance (64) and Ian Bell (50) had earlier struck fifties in a 79-run partnership for the second wicket to set a solid platform.

James Anderson trapped Lahiru Thirimanne lbw fifth ball and Harry Gurney bowled Kumar Sangakkara (8), before Jordan ran through the middle order, taking 3-23. He picked up the key wicket of Tillakaratne Dilshan for 33, and accounted for Dinesh Chandimal (8) and Nuwan Kulasekara in the same over. James Tredwell also impressed with figures of 3-38 as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 144.

A look back at the ODI between England and Sri Lanka from 2014 at Durham

The series was squared as England suffered a heavy 157-run defeat in Durham. Sachitra Senanayake starred with 4-13 to skittle the hosts out for an embarrassingly low total of 99, stand-in skipper Eoin Morgan - taking over in place of the injured Alastair Cook - one of only two batsmen to reach double-figures, and scoring almost half of England's runs with his 40.

Dilshan had earlier tonked 88 from 101 balls - well supported by Sangakkara (40), Angelo Mathews (30), and Ashan Priyanjan (43) - to help the visitors up to 256-8 from their 50 overs. Nottinghamshire's left-armer Gurney enjoyed some success with the ball, taking 3-59.

A look back at the ODI between England and Sri Lanka from 2014 at Old Trafford

The see-saw series once again tipped in England's favour, after another one-sided win, and thanks to another stellar display by Jordan. A career-best 5-29 for the fast bowler helped the hosts dismiss Sri Lanka for a paltry 67 at Old Trafford. Tredwell (2-2) and Anderson (2-10) chipped in with two wickets apiece, including Jimmy grabbing his bunny Thirimanne at the top of the order for the third of four times in the series.

England knocked off their target in just 73 deliveries, with returning captain Cook hitting 30 not out, and Bell an unbeaten 41 as they cruised to a 10-wicket win - Bell clinching victory in emphatic fashion by smashing Rangana Herath for six down the ground.

Watch the best of Jos Buttler's record-breaking innings against Sri Lanka at Lord's in 2014

Jos Buttler hit the then-fastest ODI ton by an English batsman, off just 61 balls, but England fell seven short of Sri Lanka's score at Lord's, to see the series once again tied. Set 301 to win by the visitors - Sagakkara (112) hitting a hundred of his own - England were in big trouble at 111-5 in the 29th over when Buttler came to the crease.

But Buttler proceeded to blast 121 from 74 deliveries - striking 11 fours and four sixes - to take the game to a dramatic finish. With 12 needed from Latish Malinga's final over, England lost Jordan second ball and then Buttler was run out by the fast bowler fourth ball to all but end the match. It was Buttler's first international hundred - he has since scored three more , bettering his own record with a 46-ball ton against Pakistan last year.

Sri Lanka secure series

Mankad-gate! Sri Lanka won the series, but in somewhat controversial circumstances at Edgbaston. Buttler - the key wicket after his exploits just days earlier - was Mankaded short of his crease for 21 by Senanayake, having being warned about his consistent backing up down the pitch.

England struggled to recover from the setback, setting Sri Lanka only 220 to win, bowled out in the penultimate over. Tredwell's dismissals of Dilshan (28) and Sangakkara (2) gave England some hope, while Anderson reduced the visitors to 62-3 with the further strike of Kusal Perera. But for once, Anderson couldn't dismiss Thirimanne - he struck 60 not out, and Mahela Jayawardena (53) too hit fifty as Sri Lanka secured the series with a six-wicket win.
