And Root enjoyed the off-the-cuff game slightly more after smashing into his mate's stumps.
"It's taken me 14 years to get you out but well worth it! @benstokes38 #newbalance," Root wrote on Twitter.

Root and Stokes are set to play for England in the three-Test series against Sri Lanka, live on Sky Sports.
The first Test, at Headingley, begins on Thursday, May 19 at 10am on Sky Sports 2 and Root says he is looking forward to getting back into the Test arena following England's triumph over South Africa during the winter.
"After the winter we've had we've definitely got a lot to take in to the summer," said the Yorkshireman. "We're playing some really good cricket across all formats.
"It's about starting well in the first Test match at Headingley and building the momentum from that, taking the confidence from that South African series away win and going from there."
