South Africa have called up fast bowler Marchant De Lange for the first one-day international against England in Bloemfontein on Wednesday.
De Lange comes in as a replacement for Dale Steyn, who has not played since hurting his shoulder during the first Test in Durban and has already been ruled out of the five-match ODI series.
Kyle Abbott, who suffered a hamstring strain during the fourth Test in Pretoria which finished on Tuesday, is also out, while Albie Morkel is unlikely to play as he struggles with a back injury.
With Kagiso Rabada, who took 13 wickets in the final Test that South Africa won by 280 runs, and Morne Morkel to be rested for some of the ODIs, coach Russell Domingo's fast bowling options are limited against Eoin Morgan's side and he says he will further add to his squad once Morkel's absence is confirmed.
"We're waiting for confirmation that he has withdrawn and then we will announce a replacement for Albie Morkel, who was due to join us on Monday," said Domingo.
"Lange will join the squad as a fast bowling option for us considering Kyle Abbott is injured and we have to manage the workload of two of our fast bowlers.
"It's an opportunity to test the depth of South African cricket and to provide opportunities for the fringe bowlers to step up and put in some good performances.
"The big concern is the fact that Rabada and Morkel have played a lot of cricket of late and have bowled so many overs - we need to manage them over the next few days."
De Lange, who took two for 69 for South Africa A in England's warm-up victory by 163 runs at Kimberley's Diamond Oval on Saturday, has three ODI caps to his name and last played in the format more than a year ago.
When asked about the chances of Albie Morkel featuring later in the series, he said: "Hopefully, it might be a spasm in the back or a disc issue, I'm not too sure yet.
"But he's a good cricketer, he's an experienced player and he's in good form at the moment so hopefully he can play some part for us later."
