Stuart Broad can still play a part for England in ODIs, says Nasser Hussain

Nasser Hussain believes that Stuart Broad still has a part to play for England in ODI cricket despite him being left out of the squad for the series with Sri Lanka.

Indeed, despite continuing to shine in the Test arena, Broad has played in only two ODIs since England's disastrous 2015 World Cup campaign.

However, England's ODI captain Eoin Morgan insists that there is still time for Broad to force his way back into the side but does not consider him among his best 15 at present, Hussain disagrees.

"England have got to be pretty good if Broad is not in their best 15," he told Sky Sports. "I would argue that he is better than (Liam) Plunkett and (Steven) Finn.

"I would argue that he has an aura about him that when you're in big situations, when you're under high pressure situations, Stuart Broad has an aura that may be lacking in this bowling attack.

"It's a good bowling attack but you wouldn't tell me that Woakes, Rashid, Ali has an aura about it. Broad definitely has that."

Not only does Hussain believe Broad, who has taken 178 ODI wickets at 30.13, should play a part in England's one-day side in the years to come, the bowler himself is keen to do so.

"He wants to play," insists Hussain. "I did an interview with him (ahead of the Lord's Test) and I asked what he still had to achieve in the game, he said 'I want to be playing in the 2019 World Cup at home, winning it for England.'"
