Kell Brook should not have to chase a fight with Amir Khan after defending his IBF title in style against Jo Jo Dan, says Johnny Nelson...
Kell Brook doesn’t need Amir Khan and the thing is, who does Amir Khan box next?
Kell is IBF champion. Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather control the rest of the division, so where does Amir Khan go? There is no reason, apart from Amir Khan, why this fight cannot be made.
What Kell did last night, what promoter Eddie Hearn did last night - they were trying to embarrass him into it. Amir Khan is saying it’s business and I get that, but outside Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, the best business has got to be Kell, hasn’t it?
Why would you not fight a guy who has got a world title, that puts you in a pole position to fight one of the premier champions, than fight a nobody and risk getting turned over?
The boxing fraternity out in America, they rate Kell. They know this guy can fight, that’s why Showtime put him on. Showtime want the world to see this guy and prominent advisor Al Haymon and promoter Lou Di Bella backed Jo Jo Dan. They were behind him to get this guy in the mix.
The word special has been bandied around by experts and fighters. Even Carl Froch is in awe of Kell. He was just telling me about Kell, years ago, going into the Institute of Sport and fighting one of the guys. No one could ever touch this guy and Kell pinned him down in 30 seconds. Kell can fight.
I’m a massive fan of Amir Khan and of course I’m going to be a massive fan of Kell Brook. But when Kell is on it, that’s when Amir Khan will have problems.
If not Khan, I would like to see him in with Victor Ortiz. I know Juan Manuel Marquez’s trainer has talked about him fighting Kell, but he said it would have to be over in the States.
I would like Ortiz. It’s not an easy fight, it’s not the hardest, but people know who he is, and it’s a fight that he can lose.
They are the ones that you want, a risky fight.
