Jamie McDonnell is willing to take a rematch against Liborio Solis, but has also discussed a WBA title defence against Paul Butler, says the champion's trainer.

The Doncaster man has been ordered by the WBA to face Solis for a second time after his points win in November, which prompted an official protest from the Venezuelan's manager.

But trainer Coldwell has revealed that positive talks have taken place over a title fight against Butler, the former IBF bantamweight champion, and is waiting to see if McDonnell can take a voluntary defence before the Solis rematch.

Rau'sheen Warren, who holds the WBA 'super' bantamweight belt, has been allowed to take an alternative bout with Zhanat Zhakiyanov after failing to agree terms for a fight with McDonnell last year and Coldwell hopes his fighter will receive similar treatment.

There have been talks about the Butler fight and we're happy for that fight, if we were allowed to have that fight in the interim.

"As far as I know, the WBA have ordered that," Coldwell told Sky Sports. "We have always said, if the WBA says it's Warren or it's Solis then if we're at bantamweight, we'll gladly accommodate that.

"There have been talks about the Butler fight and we're happy for that fight, if we were allowed to have that fight in the interim.

"I know Warren is fighting again, so if we're allowed to fight Butler, then we would be quite happy with that."

Discussing negotiations for the Butler fight, Coldwell said: "It's all very cordial and it's going in the right direction. The only thing we were waiting on is a couple of things and the WBA.

"But the WBA have now come out and said yes it's Solis, so we'll see. If it is Solis and if that has to be next and not him fight the winner, then that's who we are fighting. If it's not, it could be Butler."
