Jamie McDonnell has told Sky Sports News he would happily move up to super-bantamweight to take on Scott Quigg next year.
The WBA 'regular' bantamweight champion could be involved in his last fight at 118lbs on Saturday night when he defends his title against Liborio Solis in Monaco, live on Sky Sports.
McDonnell was originally expected to face WBA 'super' champion Rau'shee Warren on November 12 but with the fight falling through, he is already looking at an all-British battle with Quigg in 2017.
"It's more than a possibility," McDonnell said.
"If we move up that fight can get made next year, he's said he'd take the fight and I would take it with both hands."
McDonnell did not rule out facing America's Warren early next year but his trainer Dave Coldwell believes the timing is not helping.
The Cincinnati fighter refused to travel to Monaco to face his fellow world champion and with Quigg suggesting that his December 10 slot on the Anthony Joshua undercard is likely to be a one-off appearance at featherweight, Coldwell is also looking for a fight that British fight fans would "love to see".
"We would love to fight Quigg, absolutely love it," Coldwell told Toe 2 Toe.
"He's a proven super-bantamweight, a world champion, one of the top guys in the division. He's got a name, a crowd, the British public love him. Jamie McDonnell and Scott Quigg is going to be a great fight.
"It'll be a good clash of styles and I think everything about it makes it a great fight and everyone would like to see it.
"Some people thing Scott will too strong for him, I beg to differ. And you've got the range of boxing skills Jamie's got as well. It's a great fight and I believe that Jamie wins."
Watch Jamie McDonnell v Liborio Solis on the Monte Carlo card, including Luis Ortiz, Stephen Smith and Martin Murray from 7pm, Saturday, live on Sky Sports 2.
