Sam Eggington faces Frankie Gavin on Saturday night and local bragging rights are very much at stake

Sam Eggington will be hoping to resume his remarkable success story with a hometown win over Frankie Gavin this Saturday, live on Sky Sports.

The 23-year-old has emerged as one of Britain's most exciting welterweights during a whirlwind two-year spell and will be targeting a career best win over fellow Brummie Gavin this weekend in Birmingham.

In 2014, Eggington entered the Prizefighter tournament for a second time after an upset win over Dave Ryan, but he was cruelly denied a place in the final after a contentious split-decision defeat to eventual winner Johnny Coyle.

His all-action style caught the eye of promoter Eddie Hearn, who rewarded 'The Savage' with a contract, and Eggington repaid his faith with a string of entertaining wins.

After halting the dangerous Denton Vassell, Eggington defeated Dale Foot to add the British belt to his Commonwealth title, although his reign was ended by a points loss to Bradley Skeete in March.

Eggington can pave the way for more major fights if he comes through a crucial clash with Gavin, and is determined to deliver another dramatic win in front of his local fans.
