As a former opponent of both, Hull’s Tommy Coyle is better placed than most to assess Saturday’s lightweight tussle between Luke Campbell and Derry Mathews.

Live Fight Night

Campbell will defend his WBC Silver lightweight title against Mathews as part of a stacked undercard to Tony Bellew's first defence of his WBC cruiserweight world title against BJ Flores at Liverpool's Echo Arena, live on Sky Sports.

Coyle fought Mathews in 2013 and was stopped in the 10th when well ahead on the cards, and was beaten in the same round by Hull rival Campbell when they battled for local bragging rights last summer.

Both Campbell and Mathews are hoping to edge a step closer to a world title shot with victory this weekend and Coyle is of the belief that the Liverpool crowd will be cheering a home winner.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, Coyle said: "Although Luke is a tremendous and very skilful fighter, he is not a massive puncher like Derry.

"I would like to see Derry take some real calculated risks, get close and unload some big shots. If he does that then I can see him knocking Campbell out.

"We know Luke is a great boxer - you don't win Olympic gold if you're not - but Derry has been there and done it in the pro ranks a thousand times.

"I was well ahead against Derry before he hit me with one big shot and that was me done. He's experienced and takes his time, waiting to find that winning shot.

"To predict the outcome, my head tells me that Campbell out-boxes him but my heart is telling me different. This is the last chance saloon for Derry and I have a feeling he will get the stoppage."
