George Groves will take on experienced German Eduard Gutknecht next month as he plots a route back to world level.
The Londoner kept alive his chances of a fourth super-middleweight world title shot by outpointing domestic rival Martin Murray in a WBA eliminator back in June.
Groves describes the WBA's 168lbs division as "messy", with the organisation's 'Super' champion Felix Sturm vacating his belt this week.
So the next step is a date at Wembley Arena on November 18 with an opponent who has fought for versions of the world title at super-middle and light-heavyweight.
Both attempts, against Robert Stieglitz in 2010 and Juergen Braehmer this year, ended in points defeats but Groves' trainer Shane McGuigan said: "Gutknecht is a very tough fight.
"He is a bigger Martin Murray. It will be a hard fight and George will need to be razor sharp."
Groves (24-3-KO18), beaten twice by Carl Froch and then by Badou Jack in his three world title fights, said: "I am approaching a world title. I don't want to be boxing puddings on my route like others, I want real fights. This is a real fight."
Gutknecht, who has twice taken Braehmer the distance during a 35-fight career (30-4-1-KO13), said: "I am ready. I have fought for the world title twice and just come up short. This is my time."
