Peter Fury has dismissed the notion that fighting in Germany renders Nathan Cleverly unlikely to outpoint Juergen Braehmer.

Wales' Cleverly (29-3-KO15) heads to Neubrandenburg to challenge Braehmer (48-2-KO35) for the WBA world light-heavyweight title and the home fighter is unbeaten since November 2008.

Some claim British fighters such as Paul Smith and Martin Murray have been short-changed by judging in Germany in the past but world champion trainer Fury says Cleverly should ignore preconceptions and calls to go for a knockout.

Fury, who trained nephew Tyson Fury to a surprise world heavyweight title points success over Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015, told Sky Sports Boxing: "I don't think Cleverly has to stop him.

"Everybody is hell-bent on stoppages in Germany but Tyson disproved that. The Germans like clean shots and the better man is the better man.

Cleverly will aim to become a two-time world champion

"All this about forcing stoppages puts unnecessary pressure on the fighter, forces him to load up and nine times out of 10, they're going to get their heads boxed off.

"They shouldn't go in with that mentality. Cleverly should go in there and box because this is a boxing match. It's a skill. That's what he needs to do rather than loading up against a very slick operator in offsetting opponents.

"Cleverly is a world class fighter. He's got all the talents and it just depends if the ship is being run properly. He's tough, has been a world champion and is very experienced. He's got a very good chance.

"Braehmer is no mug. He belongs where he is and hasn't just fought bums like some people claim he has. I've seen his boxing and he's highly skilled. He's an excellent technician and a nightmare for anyone in the world.

"It's no easy task and if he beats Braehmer then it shows you the quality of Cleverly at light-heavyweight."
