Anthony Crolla is looking to make history and become the first English boxer to be crowned The Ring magazine lightweight champion.

'Million Dollar' takes on experienced three-weight world champion Jorge Linares at the Manchester Arena on Saturday night, live on Sky Sports 2.

Crolla's WBA world title and Linares' WBC Diamond belt will be on the line but the 29-year-old has also set his sights on being first Englishman to win the iconic magazine's 135lbs title, which is currently vacant.

"This fight is something else because what I am fighting for," he told Sky Sports' Andy Scott.

"Obviously I've got the WBC Diamond, which very few people win - and will look great on my mantelpiece - but [I want] the Ring Magazine as well.

Tale of the Tape

"I'll be joining an elite club of fighters. I'd be the first Englishman - and I know we've had two great Scotsman do it in the shape of Jim Watt and Ken Buchananan who have held that and it is so prestigious.

"You don't get more prestigious than winning a Ring belt and to win that is something. I get goose-bumps just thinking about it but they are the belts I want to bring home and wake up on Sunday morning with them."

Crolla was already given the Ring's most inspirational accolade after recovering from a fractured skull at the end of 2014 to take the WBA world title from Darleys Perez less than a year later.

Victory over Linares on Saturday will also see the Mancunian match the man behind him, Joe Gallahger, who was awarded the trainer of the year title and fellow north-westerner, Tyson Fury, who won the fighter of the year after beating Wladimir Klitschko and remains The Ring magazine heavyweight champion.
