Tony Bellew's bid to claim the vacant WBC world cruiserweight title will end in his own tears, according to opponent Ilunga Makabu.
Congo-born Makabu (19-1-KO18) will travel to Bellew's home town of Liverpool to stake his claim for world champion status - but the visitor is forecasting a night of misery for 'Bomber' and his fans.
Makabu told World Boxing News: "What I can say about May 29 and my fight at Goodison Park? Well, Tony Bellew has made a big mistake to put himself in front of me.
"I believe that by round three he'll start to cry for his mother from the punishment I give him. In round four, he'll then cry for his father but both of them and nobody else can come in the ring to help him.
"They will be crying together with his fans outside of the ring. But in round five, I will reunite them again when I force his trainer to throw in the towel and stop the fight. Trust me; it will be a bad day in the ring for Tony Bellew."
Bellew (26-2-1-KO16) missed out in his previous two attempts to become world champion when a light-heavyweight, losing a majority decision to Nathan Cleverly in October 2011 and being stopped by Adonis Stevenson in November 2013.
Makabu's sole defeat as a professional came in his very first bout when he was stunned by Khayeni Hlungwane in the first round. He has since stopped all of his opponents bar Dmytro Kucher (23-1-1-KO17).
