Eric Molina has revealed preliminary contact has been made over a clash with new IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn said earlier this week that he had put a three-man shortlist together - all based in the United States - to take on his fighter at the O2 on June 25.

Molina (25-3-KO19) appears to be in contention with former WBC champion Bermane Stiverne (25-2-1-KO21) and Dominic Breazeale (17-0-KO15) to take on the unbeaten Olympic champion.

Joshua (16-0-KO16) claimed the title with a ruthless second round knockout of champion Charles Martin and his next opponent is expected to be named next week.

Molina has already challenged for a world belt, being knocked out by WBC champion Deontay Wilder last June, but he is very interested in making his British debut and would be happy to challenge Joshua on home turf.

Eddie Hearn sat down with Andy Burton to reveal his plans for the summer

Speaking to World Boxing News, Molina said: "I am definitely interested in the Joshua fight and it would be great to fight in England.

"The atmospheres are much more exciting than here in the United States. Not too many American heavyweights are willing to hit the road these days, but I did it against Wilder and [Tomasz] Adamek and have done it most of my career - I prefer fighting outside of the USA.

"Eddie Hearn has been in contact with my promoter Don King and there have already been negotiations for the contest, but nothing is concrete yet. June 25 would be a quick turnaround for me and my second world title fight in what has been a busy year, but these are the fights I want to be involved in.

Anthony Joshua reveals on Instagram he'll defend his IBF heavyweight title at the O2 Arena on June 25

"The hype is justified around him and he brings a great package to the table; a humble guy and a role model within his country. You have to respect what he is doing."

Eddie Hearn has confirmed he held talks with fellow promoter Don King as he considers potential opponents for Joshua's first title defence.

"Molina is certainly on the list," Hearn told Sky Sports. "He is in the top 15, gave Deontay Wilder a great fight, and is coming off a big win against Tomasz Adamek in Poland.

"We've had a few chats with Don King, which have been fun. We'll see how it plays out."
