Scott Quigg says his long-awaited fight with Carl Frampton is 'nearly there' and hopes the domestic clash will be confirmed for February in Manchester.
Britain's two best super-bantamweights could finally share a ring in the next few months as there have been positive talks between Quigg's promoter Eddie Hearn and Barry McGuigan and his sons, who handle the career of Frampton.
Quigg is more optimistic than ever about the fight being made for early next year and has revealed that Manchester Arena is the likely location.
The venues are being talked about - Manchester the middle towards the end of February, so the dates are being set. We're nearly there.
"Again it's the fight we all want, it's the fight everybody wants to see and it's the closest it's ever been to being made," he told Sky Sports News HQ.
"I'm always in the gym, I live in the gym so this is no change for me. I've just got to keep focused, keep learning, keep improving and hopefully that green light will get pressed and it's the fight that everyone wants to see.
"With a fight like this, negotiations are always going to be difficult, even to the smaller things, but it's the furthest it's ever been. The venues are being talked about - Manchester towards the end of February, so the dates are being set. We're nearly there."
Both men have expressed their willingness to settle the long-standing rivalry, despite the breakdown of talks over the years, and Quigg feels the time is now right for them to put their unbeaten records on the line.
"I want the fight desperately because I believe I'm the best," said the Bury man. "You want to be involved in those big fights. This has been building since I was British champion and he was Commonwealth champion so it's been building and brewing for a long time.
"This is the time now, we're both undefeated, we're both world champions. I don't think there is any better timing and everybody wants to see it. It's the biggest fight in British boxing alongside Kell Brook and Amir Khan."
