Andy Murray can be satisfied with his US Open draw as he targets the final Grand Slam title of the year, says Sky Sports expert Mark Petchey.

The British No 1 has been handed an opening match against Czech opponent Lukas Rosol at the New York tournament, which starts on Monday.

Murray has added the third major trophy of his career at Wimbledon in July, before defending his Olympic gold medal at Rio in August.

Petchey believes the Scot has received some potentially favourable matches at Flushing Meadows as he attempts to repeat his 2012 triumph.

"When you look at the relative head-to-heads that he has against the people in there, I think in general he's going to be pretty happy with it," Petchey told Sky Sports.

"Rosol, a lot of British people will know him for his win over Rafa Nadal, but Andy has beaten him in the two matches that they have played, although he has dropped the opening set both times as well.

The tougher tests await with the likes of Kei Nisihkori, but again Andy has a very strong head-to-head.

"There is a little bit of danger in that one, but maybe that is a good thing for Andy to get his mind firmly set on the tournament.

"He's obviously had some good wins over Juan Monaco, who he potentially plays in the second round, and Marcel Granollers is a man he knows well, who has only beaten Andy a couple of times.

"Gilles Simon is a tricky guy, who could be in the third round, but if you go back and look at Andy's record against the Frenchman, it's very strong, 14-2.

"The tougher tests await with the likes of Kei Nisihkori, but again Andy has a very strong head-to-head. Stan Wawrinka is the wild card as ever, but he's got a tough first round match against Fernando Verdasco, who he has a losing record against."

Defending champion Novak Djokovic suffered surprise early exits at Wimbledon and Rio, while a wrist injury has also hampered his preparations.

The world No 1 will start with a match against Poland's Jerzy Janowicz, and Petchey expects him to challenge for his third title at the hard court tournament.

"I think Novak has got the sort of draw that will get himself nicely in the groove at the US Open," Petchey added. "In general, the hard courts have always been a happy hunting ground for him in terms of his wins.

"He starts as favourite, but at the same time, Andy is in the form of his career right now."
