Britain's Kyle Edmund said he did "lots of good things" to defeat David Goffin and move into the Madrid Open quarter-finals on Thursday.
The 23-year-old followed up his victory over 12-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the previous round by sweeping past last-16 opponent Goffin.
Edmund's 6-3 6-3 win booked a last-eight clash against Canadian Denis Shapovalov, who beat Milos Raonic 6-4 6-4.
It also means that Edmund will secure a place in the world's top 20, and he beat Shapovalov when they last met in Brisbane earlier this year.
"There were lots of good things. I managed my game very well today," Edmund told Sky Sports. "My game is one of those where the better I manage it and pick my moments to be aggressive, then I play well. I served really well today. It got me through easy games and also got me out of some tricky situations.
"He is a top player, top 10 in the world, so it is very pleasing."
Sky Sports pundit Greg Rusedski says there are "exciting times" ahead for Edmund under the tutelage of coach Fredrik Rosengren.
"Having worked with him, sometimes he would worry about things and not be in the present and the process. That is what he is doing so well [to avoid]. He got here very late, he won the doubles title with Cameron Norrie in Estoril, had a little practice on Monday and then he has been going from strength to strength.
"It's so impressive from the Brit, a real opportunity for him tomorrow [Friday] and I just like his mindset and the improvements in his game.
"You have to give a lot of credit to Fredrik Rosengren [his coach] because he has really changed Kyle's mindset and brought more energy to Kyle because at times he could be a little timid on court and he is now showing his emotion and the process has been excellent. Very exciting times."
