Karolina Pliskova recovered from a slow start to defeat CoCo Vandeweghe and claim the Stuttgart Grand Prix title.

The Czech fifth seed earned the second clay-court trophy of her career, after winning in Prague three years ago, with a 7-6 (7-2) 6-4 success in Germany.

"It's the best atmosphere to play in Germany," said Pliskova, who collected her trophy after being driven across the court in the flame-red Porsche 718 Boxster cabriolet which came along with her prize money.

"I want to thank my team. I think we had a great week and without them I would not have the trophy."

Vandeweghe, who beat three top-10 players this week, was unable to keep the best clay run of her career alive in the final.

The world No 16 was bidding to become the first American winner in Stuttgart since Lindsay Davenport in 2005.

Victory in Stuttgart gave world No 6 Pliskova a 10th career title and her first since winning the trophy in Eastbourne last year.
