Swiss great Roger Federer rumbled on at the Shanghai Masters after seeing off unseeded Frenchman Richard Gasquet to set up a semi-final showdown against Juan Martin del Potro.
Federer was relatively untroubled as he came through thanks to a 7-5 6-4 victory over world No 31 Gasquet.
The 36-year-old broke Gasquet at 5-5 to gain the upper hand and went on to take the first set. The second seed claimed two more breaks in the next to seal the deal after one hour and 18 minutes of action.
He is scheduled to face Del Potro in the last four, although the Argentine's participation is in doubt after hurting his wrist in his victory over Viktor Troicki.
Del Potro clambered off the court floor to knock out Serbia's Troicki 4-6 6-1 6-4 and bravely seal his spot in the last four.
The Argentine 16th seed, who has suffered years of wrist injuries that have threatened his career, took a nasty tumble at 2-2 in the deciding set, landing with his weight on his outstretched left hand - his non-playing hand - and bending it painfully backwards.
He needed several minutes of medical attention, wincing in obvious distress at times, but still incredibly broke the serve of the unseeded Troicki on his immediate return to action before he prevailed to win the match.
"I don't know how my wrist is after I fell down," Del Potro said before leaving for a local hospital. "I felt something wrong in that moment, but I continued to play, just playing [backhand] slices just to finish the match. I'm going to the hospital to see what the MRI says, and what the doctor says.
"Then I will take a decision for tomorrow. I would like to play and be 100 per cent."
We will have all the action from the conclusion of the Shanghai Masters before we head to the Erste Bank Open and Swiss Indoors Basel and then the Paris Masters.
