British No 1 Johanna Konta booked her place in the last 16 of the Aegon International at Eastbourne with a straight-sets win over Lesia Tsurenko.

Konta produced a commanding performance against the Ukrainian world No 42 to prevail 7-6 (7-4) 6-1 in one hour and 48 minutes.

There was little to choose between the pair in an opening set during which a total of nine break points came and went.

But after holding her nerve in the tie-break Konta stepped up the pace in the second set and broke Tsurenko twice to move through in style.

Konta will next face former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, who came through a tough test against Hungary's Timea Babos 6-4 7-6 (7-5).

Unseeded Caroline Wozniacki produced arguably the performance of the day as the former world No 1 took just 68 minutes to beat seventh seed Samantha Stosur 6-2 6-1.
