Federico Delbonis earned himself a clash against world No 1 Roger Federer with a first-round victory over Ryan Harrison at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

The Argentinian took the first set 6-2 against his American opponent but surrendered the next 6-4 before prevailing 7-5 in the decider to advance to the second round.

The top seed awaits him with the two having met only once before, a victory for Delbonis on clay in Hamburg in 2013.

It was a good day for Argentina with Nicolas Kicker beating Czech Jiri Vesely 7-5 6-3 and Horacio Zeballos overcoming Japan's Yuichi Sugita 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 7-6 (7/4).
