We have every chance of avoiding relegation says Leeds boss

Andy Key says Leeds will go into their Guinness Premiership clash against Bath on Saturday "full of confidence" after beating Newcastle 16-15. Director of rugby Key watched his side record their third successive win in appalling conditions a Kingston Park on Sunday. Key said he was over the moon with the Guinness Premiership strugglers' composure and believes the club have 'every chance' of avoiding relegation. "Our objective over the festive period was four wins out of four and we have now won three," he said. "We will face Bath next weekend looking for that fourth win and with a lot of confidence. Win that and we have every chance of avoiding relegation. "Neil (Back) and I have been critical of our composure recently, but we did what we needed to do today after scoring a first class try.

"To not concede a penalty in that last five minutes while under pressure was a hugely rewarding experience. "The win is massive and brings a bit more belief into the side. This is a game of inches and today we have inched towards being a side who can compete in this league." Newcastle, who spent three days clearing snow off the pitch, were rewarded with their biggest crowd of the season, with 8,776 turning up despite snow and sub-zero temperatures. Falcons director of rugby Steve Bates said: "It took a really big effort to get the game on but I don't think you can criticise the players for coming up short. "It was just a lottery out there. We have had guys come off frozen and walking straight into the shower it was that bad. "It could have gone either way and conditions were nearly impossible towards the end. We're not going to go away and change everything. "We're not particularly suited to conditions like that - I don't know anyone who is - and we just have to be careful not to overreact."
