Coach pays tribute to captain Chabal

Philippe Saint-Andre paid tribute to his players after Sale became the first side in Guinness Premiership history to play four successive matches without conceding a try. The Sharks have now won all four of their opening games of the new season and each victory has been chiselled on obstinate defending and a fierce desire not to have their line breached. "I'm very pleased with the performance of the team," said the Sale director of rugby. "I thought it was fantastic and we scored two great tries. I don't know how it could be 6-6 at half-time because we dominated. "To not concede a try again is fantastic and the players worked so hard for each other. I'm very pleased." Saint-Andre also reserved special praise for try-scorer Chabal, adding: "He was captain today and I think he's back to his best. "That's four wins out of four but we need to continue our run against London Irish next week."

Controversial

However, the controversial new rule changes being rolled out across rugby union again caused concern in both camps. The Experimental Law Variations, or ELVs, are being trialled in a 12-month test run this season. And no-one was more exasperated than Saint-Andre, who said: "Today we kept trying to play but got punished around the contact area. I'm very concerned about it."
