Owen Farrell insists the British and Irish Lions are heading to New Zealand confident they have the firepower to tame the All Blacks.

Warren Gatland's 41-man squad fly out from Heathrow on Monday and have their first tour match against Provincial Union on Saturday.

And England back Farrell believes the squad can topple the hosts and avenge the whitewash in 2005.

"It's a tough challenge for the squad and a massive tour," he said.

"They're obviously the best team in the world, so playing them in their back garden is going to be a massive challenge.

"I don't think anybody is going out there just to take part. Everyone firmly believes we're going out to win and that's the way it should be.

"It's a brilliant squad that's going out there, full of world-class players.

"If we get it right and make sure we're on the same page as soon as possible, I'd imagine this squad would challenge anyone."

Meanwhile, Jack Nowell insists his preparations for the Lions tour have not been hampered by joining the squad late.

The wing arrived after the other players due to him helping Exeter Chiefs win the Premiership title on Saturday as they beat Wasps in extra time.

He joined up with the Lions squad on Sunday, a day before they travel to New Zealand, but says he already feels part of the unit.

Nowell told Sky Sports News HQ: "The boys have helped me, they have been here for a good couple of weeks now.

"You can feel the excitement going around the whole camp to go.

"I've picked up on that straight away and I cannot wait to go on that plane."

The first of the three-Test series is on June 24 in Auckland.
