As Warren Gatland unveils his coaching line-up for this summer's British and Irish Lions tour, we take a look at the men tasked with conquering the All Blacks in New Zealand.

Andy Farrell

Farrell enjoyed a glittering rugby league career, including winning the coveted Man of Steel award on two occasions, the Golden Boot and an OBE before switching codes to join Saracens in 2005.

His time as a union player was plagued by setbacks and debates over his best position, meaning his debut was delayed until a year later before winning eight England caps in 2007.

Upon retirement, the 41-year-old spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Saracens before going on to become England's defence coach, leaving that role following last year's dismal World Cup campaign.

He was then appointed as Ireland's defence coach, helping to oversee an away victory over South Africa and then a spectacular success against world champions New Zealand in Chicago, before a memorable autumn campaign concluded with Ireland defeating Australia.

Farrell was also a key part of Gatland's support team during the Lions' 2-1 Test series victory over Australia in 2013.

Borthwick, who won 57 Test caps and made almost 400 appearances for Bath and Saracens, made the switch into coaching during Japan's memorable 2015 World Cup campaign that included an historic defeat of South Africa and a 92% lineout rate, before linking back up with Eddie Jones last December as part of the national side's backroom staff.

His time with England so far has been a successful one, helping his country to an unbeaten 2016, claiming the Six Nations title in Grand Slam fashion, beating Australia three times Down Under and then winning all four autumn Tests.

Rob Howley

Former Wales, Cardiff and Wasps scrum half Howley is no stranger to British and Irish Lions tours having featured in four to date.

As a player, he was part of two British & Irish Lions tours, in 1997 to South Africa - where he suffered a shoulder injury and missed the Tests - and 2001 to Australia. He was one of the tour captains Down Under and played in the first two Tests before sustaining a broken rib, which ruled him out of the series decider. While he featured in the 2009 and 2013 tours as part of the coaching set-up.

During an impressive playing career for his country, Howley won 59 caps for Wales, scoring 10 tries, and captained his country to 15 wins in 22 matches while also scoring the winning try for Wasps in the 2004 Heineken Cup final against Tolouse, when he outwitted Clermont Poitrenaud with a grubber kick to the corner.

Following his retirement, Howley took up a coaching role with Cardiff before becoming an attack coach for the national side in 2008, leading Wales to three Six Nations titles, including two Grand Slams, and the semi-final of the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
