Wales wing Alex Cuthbert has signed a new contract with Cardiff Blues.

The Blues' announcement comes as Cuthbert continues his rehabilitation after recently undergoing successful knee surgery in Sweden.

Cuthbert, who has won 42 Wales caps and toured Australia with the 2013 British and Irish Lions, will not play again this season and will also be sidelined for Wales' three-Test trip to New Zealand in June.

"I've really enjoyed the environment and culture this season at Cardiff Blues under [head coach] Danny Wilson, and the direction we are all now heading in," Cuthbert said.

"The players have really bought into the style of rugby we're looking to produce, and that has been reflected in the results over the last six months.

"I am pleased to sign a new contract at Cardiff Blues, and I am looking forward to getting back to full fitness and the start of next season."

Cuthbert joined the Guinness PRO12 outfit during the 2011-12 campaign, and has scored 37 tries in 79 appearances.

Wilson added: "Alex has played exceptionally well for Cardiff Blues since returning from the Rugby World Cup, and we are excited that he has now committed his future to us.

"Alex's attitude has always been excellent in my time at the region, and he's a good professional and hard worker - both on and off the field - who always gives his all for the team.

"Alex is undoubtedly a high-quality international winger who is determined to improve year on year. We are all delighted that he has now pledged to do that at Cardiff Blues."
