Ireland international Tommy O’Donnell has signed a three-year contract extension that will see him remain with Munster until at least June 2019.
O'Donnell, who has been capped nine times, missed out on a place in Ireland's World Cup squad after sustaining a hip injury in a warm-up game against Wales in August.
The 28-year-old Munster academy graduate, who hopes to return from his hip injury early in 2016, was thrilled to tie his long-term future to the club he has spent his entire professional career with.
"I am delighted to sign up for a further three years with my home club," O'Donnell said.
"In committing for such a period I can focus on the job at hand, getting back to full fitness, while knowing I have the opportunity to make a difference and help towards shaping the future of this squad."
O'Donnell becomes the second member of the Munster back row to sign a contract extension this week after South African standout CJ Stander also committed his future to the province.
The news comes as a huge boost to head coach Anthony Foley who sees O'Donnell and Stander as key building blocks for Munster's future.
"To see guys like CJ and now Tommy committing to Munster is great for everyone involved," Foley said.
"We all know what Tommy is capable of here, and as a dynamic and powerful player we look forward to seeing him back on the pitch soon.
"He leads this group through his work ethic and professional approach so to have someone with those values continue with us bodes well for the future."
