New Sale Sharks signing Josh Charnley has set his sights on an England call-up after switching codes from rugby league.

The 25-year-old signed off in style earlier this month when he scored a try during Wigan Warriors' 12-6 victory over Warrington Wolves in Super League's Grand Final.

Charnley, who won seven caps for England in rugby league, will begin training with his new Sale team-mates on Monday and he hopes he can catch the eye of England head coach Eddie Jones if his transition to rugby union goes smoothly.

Charnley gave an emotional farewell to Wigan after winning the Grand Final

Charnley told Sky Sports News HQ: "It is good playing for your country and I have done it in rugby league.

"Pulling on that jersey is huge honour and it is what players aspire to get to."

When asked his potential position, Charnley said: "I think I am going to stay at wing/full back. If I can't handle them they will probably move me in a little bit.

"I've never played [rugby union] before. It is more of a northern thing rugby league, so I am looking forward to it. It is going to be a huge challenge but it is one of those I am going to commit to."

It was a case of third time lucky for Wigan against Warrington after losing the previous two Grand Finals and Charnley admits he was delighted to leave Warriors on a high note.

Charnley said: "When I said I was leaving I wanted some silverware and getting to that semi-final was massive. Getting some silverware to finish - we had not had it for three years - it is one of those moments I will cherish for the rest of my life.

"I have had 10 days. I start on Monday so I am looking forward to it. It has been a good 10 days after the Grand Final. I have been on a high but I am looking forward to a new challenge and trying to learn a new code.

"I am playing a similar role but I just need to learn the rules as well as when to kick and when to run. I will put 100 per cent into it and see how it comes."
