Chris Ashton should be picked for England, says Will Greenwood

Will Greenwood discusses how the English clubs will fare in the Champions Cup

Will Greenwood believes Chris Ashton should be selected by England for the tour of Australia this summer.

The Saracens wing marked his return from a 10-week ban for contact with the eye area of Ulster centre Luke Marshall with two tries in a 30-10 demolition of Bath at the Rec on Friday.

England will face Australia in Brisbane on June 11, Melbourne on June 18 and Sydney on June 25.

Speaking on the Rugby Club, Greenwood said: "Ashton is getting the cat calls and the boos for getting involved in incidents he doesn't need to, but as a reader of the game in a back three, I think he is the best in England.

"100 per cent [he should be picked by England]. If Eddie Jones is prepared to let bygones be bygones with certain players, as he has, and welcome into the fold people who have stepped over the discipline line, [Ashton should be picked]."

Will Fraser and Mike Ellery also scored tries in the win over Bath as Saracens maintained their position at the top of the Aviva Premiership.

Asked to give his assessment of the performance and Saracens' form this season, Greenwood added: "Absolutely super. It's actually some of the intricate little details that they are starting to add to the games, and what I mean by that is, please throw away any tag of 'dull Saracens' now. That is well and truly buried.

"Some of the off-loading in contact setting up the Ellery try was quite outstanding. Everyone [was] looking comfortable on the ball from one to 15."
