Aviva Premiership strugglers Bristol have recruited Alan Solomons as a coaching consultant for the rest of this season as they look to boost their survival chances.

The former Northampton, Ulster and Edinburgh coach will join them with immediate effect.

Bristol are currently bottom of the table, six points adrift of 11th-placed Worcester, who they meet at Sixways in a crucial clash on March 5.

South African Solomons, 66, led Edinburgh to the European Challenge Cup final in 2015 and has also worked with the Springboks and the Barbarians.
