Wasps director of rugby Tony Hanks reiterated that Wales centre Gavin Henson has not signed for the club.

Tait delighted with his first win in charge

Wasps director of rugby Tony Hanks reiterated that Wales centre Gavin Henson has not signed for the club. Wasps released a statement on Friday denying a newspaper report that they have signed the British and Irish Lion, and the Ospreys then released their own statement saying Henson had indicated to them that he did not wish to leave the region. When questioned about Henson following Friday night's 29-17 Aviva Premiership defeat at Newcastle, Hanks said: "Did you guys not get the statement this morning? That was straight from the horse's mouth. "Gavin Henson as far as I am aware gets linked to us, as every Welsh player does. "I understand he is doing some dancing or something, but we haven't signed Gavin Henson." As for the defeat at Kingston Park, Hanks added: "We didn't look after the ball, simple as that. "Every time we had the ball or got in a position to do something we dropped it, and then we came under pressure and gave away some soft penalties. "Gopperth had his kicking boots on and they built a score and deserved the win. "We had taken our chances but scoring the try of the season doesn't give you competition points. "Our potential is obvious but we have to bring it together. We have talked about consistency but talking about it does not mean it is going to happen. "We were playing smart and spotting opportunities but we lost that momentum and couldn't get back in."

Fightback

Newcastle head coach Alan Tait was delighted with his side's excellent fightback, which gave him his first win in charge. "I was nearly getting in my car after 10 minutes," he joked. "The positive side is we fought back. We gifted them 14 points and for the team to come back against Wasps was great. But there were signs in that first half that our energy levels were there. "To give a start to a team like Wasps and fightback like that was superb and I have told them they need to believe in themselves more."
