Steve Borthwick says England must learn from their mistakes in the Six Nations to beat South Africa

England must "break the mould" in their Test series against South Africa if they are to record an historic victory, says Steve Borthwick.

South Africa host England in a three-Test series, live on Sky Sports, in Johannesburg (9 June), Bloemfontein (16 June) and Cape Town (23 June).

Borthwick also believes England must learn from the mistakes they made in their disappointing Six Nations campaign to have a chance against the Springboks.

"We can't approach it like South Africa have always been approached and that's the great challenge ahead for us," England's forward coach told Sky Sports News.

"No England team has ever won a Test series down in South Africa so we've got to do things differently."

When asked if England's Six Nations disappointment had been forgotten, Borthwick added: "You review things thoroughly, you learn lessons and we had the opportunity there to receive some pretty clear feedback about what worked and what didn't.

"It then becomes a point to ensure that we develop those things going forward. It was clear that there were areas that weren't good enough so we've got to do things differently, we've got to break the mould."
