England head coach Eddie Jones has laughed off criticism from Australia's Michael Cheika

Eddie Jones believes Australia's verbal attack on Dan Cole could come back to haunt them - claiming it has galvanised his team ahead of the final autumn international.

Australia coach Michael Cheika claimed earlier this week that Cole had been scrummaging illegally for his entire career, prompting a firm defence from forwards coach Steve Borthwick.

And speaking on the eve of the Twickenham clash, Jones has suggested Cheika has been disrespectful by singling out an individual.

"Michael's upset, so he's got his machine gun out and is firing away at different sorts of people," said Jones. "But we're just focused on our preparation and getting on with it.

Jones says England must produce their best game of 2016 against Australia on Saturday

"It certainly hasn't had any impact on us. It's probably drawn us tighter together.

"The players are upset about the comments about Dan Cole, in a positive way because we respect each of our team-mates and respect Australia as a team and we thought to single out a player is maybe not the right thing to do.

"Everyone makes a choice in life about what they say and how they behave. If that's how he wants to behave, that's entirely up to him. We are comfortable how we have behaved and comfortable how we have represented rugby.

"Rugby is a respectful game and we represent all the kids playing rugby, supporters, and we want to behave in a respectful way.

"We have to keep the game in its proper state. The great games of the world - golf, tennis and rugby - stand alone because they have standards of behaviour."
